Amidst a massive show of adoration for Saint John Paul II, statues of the ‘cover-up’ Pope are vandalised in Poland

A LARGE majority of Poles are in a state of denial over revelations that Pope John Paul II covered up clerical abuse . This was made abundantly clear at the weekend when tens of thousands took to the streets in support of the late Pope.

However, its reported here that, amidst the event, held to commemorate the 18th anniversary of his death, isolated instances of vandalism against memorials to him took place.

In the city of Łódź, a statue of the late Pope was doused with red paint. MSN posted a photograph of this “despicable act of vandalism.”

In Wrocław, a mural of him was defaced, also with red paint.

The right-wing editor of Gazeta Polska , Tomasz Sakiewicz, who posted the picture above on Twitter, reportedly played a big role in the commemorations.

At the largest march, in Warsaw, Sakiewicz, above, claimed attendance of 200,000. However, two far-right leaders – Krzysztof Bosak and Robert Bąkiewicz – estimated there were tens of thousands present.

Among those who took in processions were leading government figures.

Ahead of the anniversary, Jarosław Kaczyński, above, chairman of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, issued a message warning that attempts to undermine the Pope’s legacy are part of “social engineering” designed to make Polish society more easily “externally controlled”.

In a letter addressed to members of the PiS, Kaczyński described latest revelations as:

A scandalous, defamatory, coordinated media witchhunt aiming to destroy the authority of the greatest Pole in our history.

He claimed that “behind these disgusting manipulations” aimed at discrediting John Paul II is the aim of:

Destroying social bonds, disintegrating and atomising society, [in order to] make it more externally controllable, and therefore defenceless against social engineering.

The attacks against John Paul II are the next stage of a huge undertaking aimed at destroying traditional values, existing ways of perceiving reality, and then building a new culture and forging a new man on their ruins.

Two polls last month—taken after the publication of fresh claims about the sainted Pope—found that around 70 percent of Poles still regard John Paul II “as a moral authority.”

  1. Wojtyła was undoubtedly an evil person whose raison d’etre was to protect the RCSC from scandal at any cost, the cost was children’s lives being wrecked by his kiddie-fiddling colleagues.

The ultimate insult to the children who suffered during his 27 year rule, was to make Wojtyla a saint on the basis of two ‘miracles’ performed during the six years after his death (an excellent performance by the standard of Lourdes where an estimated 200 million have visited and the ‘approved’ miracle total is only 70).

I wonder why, with at least 150 million visitors to Lourdes in the past 50 years, (now 5 million each year) only one miracle has been ‘verified’?

I know the borders and even the existence of Poland has been varied and disputed over the centuries but “the greatest Pole”? Among a crowded field my vote would go to Nicolaus Copernicus who metaphorically overturned the universe against the express authority of the Catholic Church. JP2 is a minor footnote in comparison.

We should not be surprised at this… It is, after all, similar to biblical “truth” which is a significant part of the bible and is purveyed by priests and apparently accepted every day. Christian believers have been conditioned to accept biblical “truth.” And similar “truths.”

  4. “Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel”, said Dr Samuel Johnson.

The fascists always claim to be upholding “law and order” (or even that “natural order” that the RCC keeps banging on about), and anyone who opposes them is thus unpatriotic, traitorous, treasonous, criminal, or even “insane” (a favourite one!). Totalitarian dictators of all stripes have used the same devious tactics, appealing to loyalty and love of country (Stalin even reinstated religion); do the “people” really believe them?

The greatest Pole in history? What about Marie Curie, Nicolaus Copernicus, Frederik Chopin, Artur Rubenstein, Joseph Conrad to name but five?

    1. No-one could argue with that selection of great people in world history.

The RCSCs in Rzeczpospolita Polska are poles apart from we mere mortals!
