THE New Orleans Archdiocese yesterday (Monday) agreed to a $230 million proposed settlement for survivors of clergy sexual abuse, after lawyers for those who had been abused for decades rejected a lower offer of $172.2 million.
New Orleans Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond, above, resorted to the usual weasel words in a statement.
Please know that I pray for the survivors of abuse every day and look forward to the opportunity to meet with them to hear their stories …
Bullshit!
Aymond has resisted demands of survivors that calledfor his resignation over the church’s failure to take action against priests for decades.

He pointed out that the bankruptcy process allows the church to “wear people down” and keep the public in the dark about the extent to which it enabled abuse.
