Trump’s attempt to import white Christian nationalists from South Africa badly backfires

IN what was clearly an attempt to boost his already enormous following of deranged white Christian supremacists in the US, the Orange Horror offered South Africa’s Afrikaner population an escape from Black rule.

Trump said of the Afrikaners, who viciously imposed unjust racial discrimination on South Africa’s non-white majority population for decades, that they were — wait for it — “the victims of unjust racial discrimination.”

You would think that America, now on the brink of becoming an authoritarian theocracy, would be a good fit for the Dutch descendants whose Calvinistic form of Christianity spawned Apartheid, but Trump’s offer has been scornfully rejected by those who still cling to the idea of racial segregation.

According to Reuters, South Africa’s Solidarity Movement — which includes AfriForum and the Solidarity trade union that represents about 600,000 Afrikaner families and two million individuals — said no way would they accept refugee status.

The Movement said:

We may disagree with the ANC, but we love our country. As in any community, there are individuals who wish to emigrate, but repatriation of Afrikaners as refugees is not a solution for us.

Representatives of Orania, a Whites-only enclave in the heart of the country whose leaders have dreams of turning it into an independent state for the Afrikaner minority —who today number three million — also rejected Trump’s offer. It said:

Afrikaners do not want to be refugees. We love and are committed to our homeland.

According to AP, Trump’s offer came after he followed through on his promise to punish South Africa by signing an executive order stopping all aid to the country over what he called a human rights violation against a white minority group.

The Trump administration says a land expropriation law South Africa recently passed was “blatantly” discriminatory against its white Afrikaners. It added that the South African government was allowing violent attacks against Afrikaner farming communities.

The despicable Elon Musk’s fingerprints are all over this latest act of lunacy. AP says that Musk was born and raised in South Africa but left after high school in the late 1980s, when South Africa was still under the apartheid regime.

He has for years criticized the current leadership in his homeland, accusing them of anti-white policies and ignoring or even encouraging a ‘genocide’ with regards to the killings of some white farmers. Those killings are at the center of claims by conservative commentators — and now amplified by Trump and Musk — that South Africa is allowing attacks on white farmers as a means to remove them.

Meanwhile its reported here that, at the weekend, local residents confronted and drove off neo-Nazi demonstrators waving large swastika-emblazoned flags in Evendale, Ohio, home to a large Black community.

A memory of a neo-Nazi rally in S.Africa

In my soon-to-be completed autobiography I write of having to cover a far-right rally for the Johannesburg Star.

“The Afrikaners were holding a rally on the outskirts of a village about a hundred miles from Johannesburg. When we arrived, there was a large tent pitched in a muddy field and I told John [my African driver] to wait in the car while I checked out the gathering as we might have make a hasty getaway.

“Inside the tent on a rickety stage was a heavily-built neo-Nazi wearing camouflage gear and an unkempt black beard. With a large swastika banner behind him he was bellowing in Afrikaans about his discontent with the existing Apartheid regime, claiming it was ‘too soft’, and that nothing short of exterminating Blacks and Jews and ‘half-breed mongrels’ would save the country.

What we need to do is finish what Hitler started!

“Spotting me he demanded to know who I was. I told him I was a Star reporter. To hoots of ridicule from his slack-jawed, snaggle-toothed, inbred audience — clearly scooped from the shallow end of the gene pool — he said derisively ‘See, the English press is reduced to employing hippie jockeys to do their dirty work.’

“The hippie reference was prompted by my long auburn hair, and he was, of course, mocking my stature.

“Just at that point a scrofulous hayseed, toothless and with eyes looking in opposite directions rushed into the tent screaming that it was surrounded by ‘kaffir bastas.’ Everyone rushed out, wielding pitchforks, hammers, hoes, spades and sickles like demented extras in a Hammer horror film.

“I left too, so I could see what the commotion was all about. All I saw was a few bored African farmhands sitting on the back of two beaten up old Ford trucks and John, nonchalantly leaning against the Mercedes and cleaning his nails with a hunting knife.

“Not seeing anything of note, the crowd turned to advance on us with their monstrous beer guts wobbling like over-inflated beach balls. The charge was led by the toothless bumpkin, shouting, ‘Kill the hippie and his kaffir friend.’

“‘Don’t panic, I’ve got this knife,” John calmly said.

“‘Jesus Christ! John, if they see that we’re both dead. Just jump in the car and drive us the fuck outta here!’”

“He hit the accelerator so hard that the car fishtailed violently in the wet field, sending large clumps of grass and mud into the faces of the lynch mob, some of whom puffed their way to their trucks and tractors like overfed pit bull terriers in the vain hope of running us to ground.

 “Looking back on it now, the scene seems comical but at the time I was, in all honesty, scared absolutely shitless.”

    Although I didn’t realise it at the time, I shook hands with the evil giant Eugene Terre’Blanche!

    I was staying at the home (high brick walled perimeter with extensive anti-climb methods atop,) of the managing director of a company in Witbank; I was transferring my technology and designs to his company under a royalty deal which required me to visit three times each year. In his garden he had a large building with a heavy steel door, he described it as an armoury for his antique weapons that he sold internationally, I expressed interest, but he refused to allow me inside. One day, after I drove back from the factory, he was with this huge man just coming out of the armoury, he introduced him as Eugene, it was only later when I saw a photo of the man that I made the connection!

    The company went bust after the finance director (a devout xtian who held prayer meetings at 0600 in the factory each day and turned out to be a well-known fraudster in other African countries) was found to have stolen R5million with the loss of 600 jobs.

    It is ironic to realise (in view of the power cuts that RSA is presently experiencing) that the technology I was transferring was only made possible because Eskom, the electricity distributor, had a surplus!

    Fascinating anecdote, Malcolm. I too met Terre’Blanche at a separate rally. Terre’Blanche came to a sticky end on 3 April 2010. The neo-Nazi was beaten and hacked to death with pipes and panga machetes. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eug%C3%A8ne_Terre%27Blanche
