TELEVANGELIST TOUFIK Benedictus Hinn, known as Benny “The Hair” for reasons that are obvious, gained notoriety over many years for making outlandish prophesies that never came to fruition.

These include the destruction of American gays by fire, that Fidel Castro would die sometime in the 1990—he actually snuffed it aged 90 in 2016—and that a major earthquake would cause havoc on the US east coast before the year 2000.

Now, according to Premier Christian News, the Israeli-born charlatan has admitted that his prophecies “were not from the Lord” and that “the Holy Ghost” was fed up with his his cockamamie utterances.

Speaking to The Strang Report, the 71-year-old shared his two biggest ministry regrets: endorsing the prosperity gospel and spreading untrue prophecies.

This is not the first time the pastor has criticised the prosperity gospel. In 2019, he declared he was “done with it” and was “correcting his own theology” after witnessing the harm caused by such teachings.

At the time, he shared on a Facebook video in which he said:

I think it’s an offence to the Lord; it’s an offence to say give $1,000. I think it’s an offense to the Holy Spirit to place a price on the Gospel. I’m done with it. I will never again ask you to give $1,000 or whatever amount, because I think the Holy Ghost is just fed up with it.

Hinn’s false prophesies and his appeals for dosh contributed to his enormous wealth. He is among the eight richest superstion-peddlers in the world, with an estimated fortune of $60-million.

In a recent interview with The Strang Report, Hinn reiterated his stance and sought forgiveness from his audience. Reflecting on past errors, he shared different examples where he believed he received divine revelation but later realised was inaccurate.

And then there were times when I thought God had showed me something that he wasn’t showing me … sadly, there were some prophecies I gave that were not accurate or from the Lord. But who’s perfect?.

He added:

I ask people to forgive me. I’m just human and made mistakes like that. And I’ll probably make them again, I suppose, down the road, because I’m not perfect.

But he still wants money:

Right now, my focus is the Lord and only the Lord. And if, of course, there will be the time when I may have to raise funds for our ministry, I will do it as biblically as I know how—and balanced.

Hinn has been criticised by many for living a lavish lifestyle while touring the world with his healing ministry, the World Healing Center Church (WHCC), which, unlike Hinn personally, appears to be in deep financial trouble, according to the Trinity Foundation, which has been monitoring religious fraud for more than 30 years.

Hinn’s ministry has been reduced to a shell of its former self. In 1999, WHCC had almost 400 employees. By 2020, the ministry had about 25 employees.

WHCC claims that Hinn, in recent years:

Has been welcomed in his travels by kings, prime ministers, and heads of state, often sought after for prayer, personal ministry, and frequently asked to address parliaments and governing bodies in nations where he visits and holds his historic services to fulfill the mission to ‘go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature’ (Mark 16:15).

One PM who could do with Hinn’s prayers right now if he wants to keep his job as Conservative Party leader is Rishi Sunak.
