CO-FOUNDED by Bridget Ziegler, above, Moms for Liberty was branded a hate group for promoting a white Christian nationalist agenda by disrupting school board meetings and demanding that books, particularly those with a LGBT+ themes, be removed from school libraries.
Critics, according to this report, labeled the outfit bigoted and homophobic. and accused it of racist fear-mongering. The Southern Poverty Law Center labeled the group extremist and anti-government.
The Center’s Intelligence Project Director Susan Corke said that Florida-based Moms for Liberty was part of a new front in the battle against inclusivity in schools, though they are drawing from ideas rooted in age-old white supremacy.
A McMaster University report last year said that MFL:
Utilizes their strong, but often unacknowledged connections to the Republican party to advocate for a White Christian nationalist view of the United States that threatens not only the diverse and democratic goals of the public education system, but also strategically undermines the rights and autonomy of racialized, LGBTQ+, or otherwise marginalized youth.
But the outfit’s appeal to far-right Christians began waning when Ziegler and her husband became involved in a sex-scandal.

Christian Ziegler, above, a Republican politician, was accused of rape. He was removed as chairman of the Florida Republican Party on January 8, 2024, by a vote of 199-3.
Yesterday (Saturday) Raw Report—under the headline “Moms for Liberty on the ropes as lone supporter attends book ban meeting”—revealed that just ONE of of Mom for Liberty attended the first Brevard County School Board meeting of the new year to considered whether two bestselling novels, The Kite Runner and Slaughterhouse-Five, should be banned from schools.
Almost 20 speakers voiced opposition to removing the novels from school libraries. One compared the book-banning effort to Nazi Germany. Another accused MFL of waging war on teachers. No one spoke in favour of the ban. About three hours into the meeting, the board voted quickly to keep the two books on the shelves of high schools.
Bridget Ziegler no longer appears on the MFL website.
