WHILE charity group, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, received a Community Hero Award in a near-empty Dodgers stadium in Los Angeles yesterday (Friday), outside hundreds of haters gathered to voice their disapproval of what Catholic for Catholics labelled a “blasphemous” event.
The “prayer procession” was organised by CFC, which said of the Sisters:
The group calls itself an ‘Order’ and takes considerable delight in mocking Catholic customs and traditions by dressing up as nuns, calling themselves ‘sisters’ and their leader ‘abbess’ and quoting the Bible verse, “go and sin no more” and changing it to ‘go and sin some more.‘
CFC added, without a trace of self-awareness, that the Sisters are:
Blind to their own bigotry. Catholics around the world and especially those local to LA should be outraged by the public acceptance and celebration of a group that openly mocks and blasphemes the Sacred Traditions of the Catholic Church.
Claiming support from outraged non-Catholics, CFC said:
If you are a Catholic or Christian and take your faith seriously, you cannot let such an offense occur against the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Few were around to see the presentation of the award because it was held on the morning before play commenced.
Sisters delighted with the publicity
The Sisters, in a statement on their website, intimated that the outrage expressed by Jesus-lovin’ homophobes and transphobes had only served to raise their profile, and made more aware of the charity work that they do.
This affair has been an opportunity for learning with a silver lining. Our group has been strengthened, protected and uplifted to a position where we may now offer our message of hope and joy to far more people than before. With great love and respect, we thank each person and each organization that have spoken up for us.
Thank you, and may your hearts be blessed with pure joy. May the games be blessed! May the players be blessed! May the fans be blessed! May the beer and hot dogs flow forth in tasty abundance!

Christianity Daily reported that LA Archbishop José Gomez, above, devoted prayers during his midday mass on Friday for “healing due to the harm caused by the Dodgers’ decision” to honour the Sisters. He emphasised that any ridicule of the beliefs of others is an affront to God and diminishes everyone’s humanity.
Meanwhile CFC boasted that Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, had accepted its invitation to join the “Prayer Procession”.
