THE “notoriously liberal” Church of Saint Paul the Apostle in Manhattan is being investigated by the Archdiocese after it mounted an exhibition called “God is Trans: A Queer Spiritual Journey” created by artist Adah Unachukwu, above left.

Newsweek reports that the Paulist-run church, established in 1858, “surprised” parishioners with the exhibition. It added that the Archdiocese was unaware of the exhibit until alerted by the media and is now looking into it.

A spokesperson for the Archdiocese told Newsweek:

We had no knowledge of it beforehand. If media reports are accurate, then we would have concerns. We are investigating and looking to speak with the pastor of the parish to get more information.

According to the church’s website St Paul the Apostle:

Remains a gathering place for everyone. Programs engage young adults, LGBTQ Catholics, artists, returning Catholics and seekers. Through its food pantry and regular collections for local youth, parishioners serve hundreds of their neighbors in need.

The words “notoriously liberal” and “blasphemous” are trumpeted by far-right LifeSiteNews which said the paintings:

Espouse the idolatrous and heretical ideas that we can make a ‘god’ according to our own liking and that ‘there is no devil.

LSN‘s hysterical report included a quote from a pissed-off Catholic, Theresa Rivezzo. She squawked:

As a Catholic New Yorker, I am shocked. This is appalling. Art that is created to shock or horrify, or to glorify or elicit sin cannot be called ‘beautiful.’

Jesus commissioned us to preach the gospel and spread the gospel all over the earth, not perversion. And when the clergy does not speak out against such immoral art that violates Catholic traditions and teachings, that’s an indication that the voice of God that they represent has been crucified.

Rivezzo said that she and a group of “faithful Catholics” plan on praying the rosary in front the church in reparation and protest this evening (Wednesday).

We will not tolerate this blasphemous exhibition.

Anothe irate parishioner told The New York Post.

I understand there are transgender people. I pray for all people but enough is enough.

It seems like they are trying to force the agenda on others. Also, when a friend asked a priest about this they didn’t answer. You can’t put this out on the altar and then hide. That’s what gets the church in trouble.

No. What gets the church in trouble are priests with kids impaled on their dicks.

I am reminded of Quentin Crisp – often, but in this case “The Naked Civil Servant” televised in 1975.

“In a bid to have the last word, the shrink resorts to biblical quotation:  ‘Male and female created he them’.  ‘Male and female …,’ Quentin replies, ‘created he … me’.”
