THOSE brought up in strongly religious environments and cling to the faith imposed on them can be absolute pains in the arse, but converts are the the worst. Example: Alexander Duncan, inset, a Republican congressional hopeful in Texas who’s having conniptions about an enormous statue — the fourth-largest in the US — was erected outside of the Sri Ashta Lakshmi temple in Sugar Land, Texas, last August.

Shortly afterward, a group of about 25 Christian protesters circled the statue for hours, praying and preaching against the “demon god.”

According to this Religion News Service report, Duncan, chasing Christian votes, said last month:

Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in Texas?

The former cop and a man “committed to protecting conservative values” wasn’t, according to The Hindustani Times, always a Christian.

But when the Jesus madness turned his brain to oatmeal he began posting proverbs from the Bible on his X account, calling people to affirm their faith in a zombie called Jesus Christ. Talking about faith, his website says, “ Everything changed when he surrendered to God and built a true relationship with Him.”

While die-hard Christians may be lauding this arsewipe, Hindu organisations in both the US and Canada can’t see what all the fuss is about.

Hardat Ashwar, founder of a temple in Brampton, home to the largest Indo-Caribbean Hindu congregation in Canada, said a statue of Lord Shiva — “tall, towering, handsome and very masculine” — is a representation of the strength, force and power that Hindus now hold in numbers and in influence.

“We see how other religions are very out there in the face of people,” Ashwar said, pointing to Christian symbols in public places.

There’s crosses everywhere on the intersection of big churches. I thought that, you know, Hinduism deserves to have that platform as well.

He’s got a point, but religious devotees will never understand that what’s good for the goose is also good for the gander and will be at each others throats until the end of time.

    1. My wife and I visited the Hindu Museum in New Delhi, their gods are wondrous complications to behold and – bloody scary for children.

  2. They’re probably upset that Hanuman is not being tortured to death. There is not even a single nail in its hands.
