THE Mentor Publishing Co Ltd has admitted to “sacriledge” for including a cartoon which it “mistakenly identified” as Islam’s prophet.

According to this Nation report, among enraged Muslim parents was Mrs Amina Mohammed who asked:

Who checks the publishers? Do they have proof readers? How could this pass?

In the Grade 2 Mentor Encyclopaedia book, the publisher included the cartoon which pupils were asked to colour in.

Galgalo Gurre, another parent, said:

My child was doing her homework and as usual I was monitoring her work only to see the blasphemy. This is so wrong in so many ways. What was the intention? I had to call her school teachers who were equally astonished.

In a statement, the publisher apologised for “the grave mistake”:

It has to come to our attention that one of our books, Mentor Encyclopaedia Grade 2, has content which is sacrilegious to the Islamic faith.

In a letter to the faithful, the Director of Mentor Publishing, Josephine Wanjuki, expressed her apologies.

We had inadvertently inserted a drawing and mistakenly identified it as the image of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Kindly accept this sincere apology and we commit to ensure that such an error will never be repeated. Going forward, we undertake …immediate measures to correct and redress this unfortunate occurrence.

The publisher said it would immediately remove the “offensive drawing” from all subsequent editions and has committed to work with the Muslim Education Council.

Wanjuki said all Mentor Encyclopaedia Grade 2 books already in bookstores, wholesalers and retailers, including street vendors, would be recalled and those in their stores would not be released into the market.

All teachers, learners, school administrators, or anyone holding these books are advised to return them to our offices, Jamia Mosque Library, Al-Ameen Mosque or Muslim Education Council. We reassure the Muslim community of our commitment to work together on this matter to ensure that such mistakes are never repeated.

  1. While the most irrelevant trivia are argued about with passion in so many religious
debates the most lethally important issue of our time i.e. global warming and its consequences remains unnoticed. Perhaps they are praying to God to solve that problem.

    1. No, they are actively hoping that it brings about the end of the world.

    2. God won’t allow man to destroy the earth. I don’t know how many times I heard that, and that’s just one reason why appropriate action will never be taken.

      1. Despite the now overwhelming evidence e.g. half the essential insects gone; animals becoming extinct; plants disappearing; oceans warming and the excessive heat; ice sheets melting and seas rising. So far God has not put in an appearance and, on past form, any rescue act from it is unlikely.

      2. For an omniscient being God seems to be a bit slow on the uptake. Man has already wrecked much of the planet. The continuing destruction of the magnificent Amazon rain forest being a prime example. However, I can add the covering of much of the planet with concrete; rendering huge swathes of air toxic and unsafe to breathe and turning previously pure rivers into sewers.

  2. Did the image show a soap-dodging paedophile impregnating a nine-year-old girl?

  3. Not much debate within ‘The Religion of Peace’ about the immorality of murdering followers of other religions.

    https://thereligionofpeace.com/ – over 44,000 terror attacks since 9/11.

Just heard that Camilla and Charles Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksberg will visit Kenya to celebrate 60 ‘glorious’ years of independence from reality and acquiescence to Boko Haram.

  4. Bullshit. With demented idiots like Mrs Mohammed (and isn’t that a “blasphemous” name?), is it any wonder that Muslim kids end up as fanatics? It’s a never-ending, self-repeating process, and instead of assisting, the internet just seems to ratchet things up!

  5. Hey Barrie. No such thing as Muslim kids, only kids who are labelled Muslim.
